Nokia 5300 is a great music phone, but the battery is utterly short. So we’ve come up with this tips and tricks that can help you save some juice out of your phone. It’s also covers tips to maximize your phone functionality and usability.

Camera Tips: [Updated]

1. Always set the NIGHT MODE when shooting indoors.
2. Set the White Balance to Daylight - When outdoors (Day) Fluorescent - When indoors
3. For acceptable shots, set the resolution to 800 x 600.

NOTE: Using the camera will put up a big drain on your battery.

Battery Tips: [Updated]

• Don’t always use the camera. Only when needed.

• Set Packet Data Connection to When Needed. Setting can be found on Settings>Connectivity>Packet Data

• Always turn on the Power Saver Feature.

• Turn off your Bluetooth when not in use.

• Turn off screensavers

• Go to Settings > Phone > Operator Selection > Manual and select your operator. This way the phone doesn’t search for a signal all the time and drain the battery out.(Only advisable for network with good signal.)

• Always make sure that the phone has an adequate signal. (If the phone is searching for signals, it drains a big part of the battery)

• I know its fun to play games, but it can decrease your battery so fast.

• Don’t discharge the battery frequently, otherwise the battery will decrease it’s performance.

• Battery maintenance, it is recommended to discharge the battery every 30 charge cycles or once a month.

• The best of all, carry an extra battery if you’re a heavy user.

How to Create Playlist on Nokia 5300, 5310, and 5610

It’s possible to create a playlist straight on your Nokia 5300, 5310 and 5610. I’ll share this little hack for everyone and here’s the trick.

Basically,
- You start by emptying the “Favorites” tracklist.
- Then go to the music library, and start adding songs in the order you want them (go to the song, and choose ‘add to favorites’ under Options).
- When all songs are added, go back to Favorites tracklist,
- and start to play it.
- Then finally, in the ‘now playing’ screen, choose Options, show tracks, again ‘Options/save as tracklist’, and give it a name.

Tips To Check A Second Hand Cell Phone!

Following are the Tips to thoroughly check a secondhand or used cell phone before buying,I have learned these from Hafeez Center and Hall Road Vendors

1. Check the accessories that comes with the phone,verify that which accessories comes with the new one and if any thing is missing ask the seller about it.
2. Check the original body of the phone(specially if its Nokia).
3. Check the seal of the warranty even if the cell's waranty expired.
4. If phone is in warranty match the IMEI number of the warranty card and the phone, usually printed on the back side of phone under the battery.
5. Check the incoming and outgoing voice with and without handsfree.
6. Check the volume of the rigtone speaker.
7. Check LCD contrast.
8. Always Make a real call from the phone and verify the incoming and outgoing voice.
9. Attach the charger and charge the phone for 5 mins
10. Thoroughly check the menu play with the phone,turn it On and OFF couple of times.
11. Remove the battery for couple of minutes and reinstall it again to verify the health of the battery.
12. Ask the seller why he wants to sell, is there any problem with the cell(Even if cell looks like a new one).
13. If a locallly used 1 or more than one year old cell phone looks like a brand new one ,check it more carefully,its may be painted.
14. To check wether the phone is painted or not, carefully examine the edges of screen ,the speaker and mic place you will defintly find some evidence of spray paint.one more thing if the surface of the phone is a little bit rough or grainy slightly scratch the phone's paint with your nail ,if its painted the pain will be removed.
15. Always check the bluetooth and gallery. Try to open it (gallery) and turn it on (bluetooth).
16. To verify wether its repaired or not.

- Check the warranty seal.

- Examine the all Screws very carefully if a little bit paint is removed or all the screws are not alike then the set is opened.

- See the edges of the phone,the line between the upper and lower halves of the body. Press phone slightly if there is a little bit play between the upper and lower half then the set is may be repaired.



one more thing those vendors check ,i:e they blow into the mic of the phone I am not sure what they check ,if anyone else know then he is welcome to shed some light on it.

DIY: create free ringtones for iPhone 3G using iTunes

It is very easy to create free ringtones for your iPhone 3G using only iTunes and songs you already have on your computer. This tutorial shows how to perform step by step. It only works with songs that are DRM free. To create ringtones using DRM protected songs, you need first strip the DRM off and then follow the guide. This method has been tested and works with iTunes 7.7.1 and iPhone 2.0.1 firmware. Actually, my friend told me he had tested it with iTunes 8 and it worked smoothly as well, though there were several differences in making settings due to the update of iTunes.

Create free ringtones for your iPhone using only iTunes and songs you already have on your computer (This method only works with songs that are DRM free. To create ringtones using DRM protected songs please follow this guide to strip the DRM off first). This method has been tested and works with iTunes 7.7.1 and iPhone 2.0.1 firmware.

To create custom ringtones using only iTunes:

• 1. Right click on the song you are going to make into a ringer and select "Get Info".


• 2. Go to the options tab and go down to the "Start Time" and "Stop Time" check boxes. Check both boxes and input the time you want your ringer to start/stop. The ringer has to be 30 seconds or less. Click OK when you're done.


• 3. Right click on your newly "clipped" song and select "Convert Selection to AAC". The song will be re-encoded using the start and stop times determined (If your menu item does not read "Convert Selection to AAC" and reads "Convert Slection to MP3" (or some other format) please go to iTunes -> Preferences -> Advanced -> Importing and change the "Import Using" drop down menu to "AAC Encoder").






4. After the song is done encoding navigate to your iTunes Music folder, locate your song, and drag it to your desktop. After the song is on your desktop go back to iTunes and delete the clipped version from you iTunes library (It won't delete it from your desktop, it will only remove it from iTunes).




5. Go back the song on your desktop and right click on your song and chose "Properties". Go to the name and extension section and change the extension from .m4a to .m4r (or you can just change the extension right from your desktop).




6. After the extension is changed simply double click on the file to add it to your iTunes library under the ringtones section. Sync your phone with iTunes and you're done!





Note: Remember to go back into iTunes and uncheck your custom start and stop times for the original version of your song.

S2U2 is a simple lock/unlock application which has the iPhone style slide unlocking. It can be used as a screensaver while you don't use your device. And it's has a CallerID function (some devices may not work, so please try it first); and S2P control plugin.

S2U2 is the new version of Slide2Unlock because the old one is a RAM hunger and running it at Landscape mode caused a lot of troubles. So the author started to rewrite the whole thing in C++... and, here it is the new born baby - S2U2. As a new start, this is the most basic version, i.e. it does not have the Caller ID, unread xxx notifications, etc...

Installation:

* If you have Slide2Unlock installed, please uninstall it first & then soft-reset.
* Under your PC/MAC/device, extract the content of the downloaded file & copy the CAB file to your device.
* Under your device, run any File Explorer application; go to the folder where the CAB file is copied; run the CAB file.
* After installation, there are 3 shortcuts created under Program FilesS2U2:
- iLock2.lnk: start/stop ilock2.exe (on the 1st run, it runs silently in the background; on the 2nd run, it closes iLock2 & S2U2).
- s2u2.lnk: manually start S2U2 (be sure iLock2 is running in the background, otherwise the Battery status will not be updated).
- s2u2 Settings.lnk - change the settings of S2U2.
* A shortcut for iLock2.exe is created automatically under "WindowsStartUp" as well.
* If it's your first time to use S2U2, please start iLock2 first.

- Added the option to lock the device when the LCD is blanked (e.g. by S2P or other music app).
- Fixed the bug that the OffLCD did not work on some devices.

- Fixed the bug that the registry values looked messy. (To make it works, after the installation of this version, please run the S2U2 Settings & save the settings once. v1.18 (14-08-2008):
- Rewrote the show appointments code which fixed some bugs & requires lesser CPU time.
- Further optimized the screen rendering speed.
- When the S2P control is activated, appointments info will be temporarily hidden.
- Removed the lock when S2P (or other music app) blanks the screen.
- Added option to disable the unread count of MMS.
- Upgraded some graphics (but still not all) to true VGA for the VGA version.
- Some minor bugs fixed.

v1.16 (07-08-2008):
- Fixed the update problem of multiple appointments.
- Removed "ReLockWaitMS" which caused some weird problems, i.e. no more relock.
- Changed the default value of "NoKeyBoardHook" to 1; it'll set to 1 as well when the "VolumeControl" is 0.
- Fixed the S2U2 Settings that could not save/change the "Volume Control" & "Keyboard Hook" settings.
- Some minor bugs fixed.
